We won't sweeten! Why should you give up sugar?
Have you overcome all your weaknesses, learned to reach for water willingly, know how to take care of regular workouts, but you are losing to your favorite chocolate? You have no idea how well we know this... If an uncontrollable desire for sweets is driving you crazy, and you would most like to eat candy bars, ice cream and jelly for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we have good news. You don't have to give them up! Read our tips and find out what and how to replace your favorite sweets. Painlessly and just as sweet!
Girls, let's be honest. Although sweets improve your mood and help drown out your sadness, they are not the healthiest or most sensible choice. However, there is nothing wrong with that, because nowadays we have a lot of delicious, healthy and equally sweet snacks at our fingertips.
The best solution for our health would of course be to completely give up white sugar. We can talk, wonder "what if...", but the truth is that parting with sugar is not the easiest. It's all because of our brain, or more precisely serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that take care of good mood and well-being. It is not without reason that we call them happiness hormones. A diet rich in sugar increases their secretion, making us feel simply better.
Believe me, white sugar is not our ally. Despite the fact that it is undeniably the most easily accessible mood enhancer, it is also the cause of unpleasant changes in our body. We are talking about insulin resistance, diabetes, acidification of the body, atherosclerosis, but also faster skin aging, extra pounds and cellulite. Although we could list them endlessly, that is not our task. We believe that thanks to these tips, you will significantly reduce sugar in your diet.
1. Don't keep sweets at homeEasier said than done, right? But the truth is that when your favorite sweets are out of sight, you won't reach for them. Instead, you'll grab a healthier snack and it'll do you good.
2. Give up sweetened drinks
Sodas, flavored water, and even juices or smoothies are really a lot of sugar! We'll repeat ourselves, but - easier said than done. However, in this case, it's worth betting on water. If you're missing a specific flavor, add mint, cucumber, lemon, mango or other favorite fruits. It's probably a matter of habit, but believe me - soon you won't want to look at colorful drinks!
3. Make friends with natural sweeteners
You can easily replace sugar with natural substitutes. The most popular are xylitol, erythritol and stevia.
Xylitol, or birch sugar, contains 40% fewer calories than traditional sugar (240 kcal/100 g). In addition, it is extremely healthy! It has a positive effect on teeth, stimulates saliva production, therefore has a good effect on anti-caries care, increases collagen production in the body, and can act as a preventive measure against osteoporosis. Sounds appealing?
Erythritol, on the other hand, is a virtually calorie-free option. It contains only about 20 kcal per 100 g. Its glycemic index is 0, which is why it is an ideal substitute for diabetics. Like xylitol, it is safe for teeth and has antioxidant properties. In practice, this means that it helps to remove free radicals, i.e. slows down the body's aging processes. Perfect!
Stevia, on the other hand, is a completely plant-based equivalent of sugar. Like other sweeteners, it has exceptionally few kcal and has a number of benefits. It lowers blood pressure, has a soothing effect on the digestive system and has an antifungal effect on the entire body.
Have we convinced you? Choose your favorite sweetener and don't give up sweets!
4. Choose healthier alternatives
There are loads of them! From easily accessible bars made of nuts and dried fruit, oatmeal cookies sweetened with xylitol, to the healthiest alternatives, i.e. sweet dates and dried and fresh fruit. Get to know them!
5. Read the ingredients
Sugar is everywhere! Salty snacks, chips, breadsticks, frozen vegetables, bread… So read the ingredients. Choose products that have the least or none of it. It's not as difficult or absorbing as you think, and it's worth it.
6. Start making your own sweets!
